Halloween is a time to be creative and let personality shine through a Halloween costume.
With children’s Halloween costumes, they can be sweet, scary, funny or whatever the child wants. Just be sure you include your child’s input in whatever the final decision ends of being.
There are some costumes that are always popular for kids, like Disney Princesses, firefighters, witches, clowns and pirates. Others are more timely, and some of the popular Halloween costumes for kids this year will be straight from the movies. Alice in Wonderland costumes, whether from the original Disney film or the more recent one, will be seen.
Whether a little girl wants to be Alice or the Queen of Hearts, or a boy wants to be the Mad Hatter or White Rabbit, these will be easy to find. Harry Potter and Star Wars characters are always winners with kids, and these can be as scary or simple as they want to make them.
Other costumes favorites for kids are things that go together that siblings or friends can be
together, like mustard and ketchup or an ice cream sundae and a cherry. Many of these can be store bought, or be creative and kids can create their own.
For a mustard and ketchup look, dress all in either red or yellow and in white letters, write the condiments name on the shirt. A tall, pointy hat would work for the top of the bottle.
Another way to be creative with a costume is purchase part of it, but make the rest at home. A great fairy costume, which is always popular with little girls, can be made with purchased wings, fairy colored clothing and leaves or flowers entwined in the hair and attached to the clothes. Boys can be creative with capes and scary masks, maybe some make up and being creative with the clothes. Anything from a current movie will be a hit.
Catalogs and websites are filled with great children’s Halloween costumes and ideas to
embellish and make their own. Have fun with the costume, be spooky or sweet, and remember, Halloween is not too far away!
